Training & qualifications

We're committed to helping our team build rewarding careers in the aquatics industry. Whether you're starting out or looking to advance your skills, you'll have opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications and industry certifications.

Training opportunities vary depending on your role, experience and employment pathway.

As a manapou / lifeguard, you will have the opportunity to complete qualifications:

  • Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate
  • Pool Lifeguard Skills Award
  • New Zealand Certificate in Aquatics (Pool Lifeguard) (Level 3)
  • Sport & Recreation Foundations (Level 3)
  • Comprehensive and Essential First Aid certifications

Kaiako kauhoe / swim teachers have the opportunity to progress through qualifications including:

  • Water Skills for Life
  • Sport & Recreation Foundations (Level 3)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Aquatics (Swim and Water Safety Teacher) (Level 3)
  • Coastguard Boat Safety and Education
  • New Zealand Apprenticeship – Specialised Swim and Water Safety Teacher (Level 4)

Hosted by Splash Palace in partnership with Swimming New Zealand in November 2025, this training course brought together our staff, local coaches and clubs to build skills, share knowledge and support the continued growth of swimming across the region.
